Fall 2008

It’s a special time!  In addition to all the usual September “start-ups” Somerset Hills Lutheran Church (SHLC, as we like to call ourselves)  is also starting our 50^th Anniversary year-long celebration as a Lutheran/Christian congregation in Basking Ridge.   This is a great thing! 

 Our anniversary theme…

 “PRESSING ON TOWARD THE GOAL…Living up to what we’ve already attained!”

(Philippians 3:14,16)

 …directs us to the way we’ve been called to live as God’s people in this place right now.   Our focus is upward and our actions are outward; made alive to God by God’s grace revealed through His Son Jesus, our worship and living as people of faith and trust result in caring for and serving others near and far. 

 Fall is a season of change; summer’s abundance moves into autumn’s beauty.  In the midst of change and new possibilities, people search for meaning and hope.  We desire what’s familiar; we want answers to our questions.  Martin Luther said, “This life (the Christian life in the world) is not concerned with health, but with healing.  This life is not about our being, but our becoming.  This life is not about rest but about exercise.  We are not yet what we shall be, but we are growing toward it.  The process is not yet finished, but going on.  This is not the end, but it is the road.” His words remind us to let go of the outcome and live in the present moment.

 For the past 50 years, God has blessed us.  God is blessing us today.  God will continue to bless us in the days, months and years ahead.   We know and believe this because His Word is His promise, and God is faithful.   Let us bless the Lord!  Be part of all the activities and events beginning September 28^th and lasting through the Spring of 2009!  You will be blessed!
