Gentle Shepherd Christian Preschool is a non-profit educational facility designed to provide a Christian education for area families with preschool children. The preschool provides an educational environment that maximizes the spiritual, cognitive, personal, social, and physical development of young children. Spiritual development is affected by the Christ-centered beliefs of the parent church, Somerset Hills Lutheran Church, and the role modeling of the staff.
Somerset Hills Lutheran Church founded the preschool in January 1993, after completing a new educational wing. Our school is licensed by the State of New Jersey and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our teachers meet or exceed the requirements set by the state for preschool educators. The entire staff is dedicated to providing a loving, Christian environment for each child.
GSCP offers a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children ages 2 1/2, 3, and 4 years old. Both morning and afternoon classes are offered. The classes are 2, 3 and 4 days and run for 21 hours. We offer one extended day for our 4 year old classes.
The school also offers a 2 1/2 year old class. Children will be 2 by April 1st. This class is a nurturing Christian atmosphere where young children can experience being in a nursery school setting for the first time. This small playgroup will enjoy their first days at school in an age appropriate environment.
The children are encouraged to learn through active exploration of their child-centered environment. These opportunities provide experience in developing positive self-esteem, self-control and independence.
Gentle Shepherd Christian Preschool is committed to providing a balanced curriculum, which reflects the appropriate developmental levels for each age group.
The preschool offers a wide variety of experiences including cognitive and perceptual skills development, language arts experiences, music activities, art activities, large and small motor skills activities, and opportunities for concrete learning as well as imaginative play.
Biblical principles and knowledge of God and His great love for the world are an integral part of the curriculum. Prayer is a part of the daily routine.
GSCP accepts children without regard to race, color, creed or national origin. Children attending the preschool must be toilet trained.
